Why ratties are AWESOME!

Ratties are AWESOME because they love you,they give you kisses,they play with you,they are sometimes funny, and they are SO ADORABLE. Some just sit on you. Some try to escape onto the floor. But none of them bit except for Suki. She has something with eyes so if she gets close to your eyes she might bite them. She has never bit me before and I hope in the future she doesn't. THAT'S WHY RATTIES ARE AWESOME!

I went to my friend's party

I went to my friend's party.  We had a sleepover in a tent.  We watched a movie.  We roasted marshmallows.  My friend opened birthday presents.  There were 7 girls at the party.  We had pancakes for breakfast.  I had an AWESOME, AMAZING, TERRIFIC, and DELICOUS time.

Merry Christmas

We decorated our Christmas tree last Saturday. It was fun! I'm so excited for Christmas! Here is a picture of our Christmas tree.

Christmas presents

My mom said we can give the gifts to my brother and sister.  I got a rock mining kit, a slinky, and an IPad mini cover.  It was awesome! I'm so happy!

I'm at my grandmama's house

It's almost Christmas time. I'm so excited for Christmas Day . I hope I'm getting doll clothes.  

I want so many Christmas gifts.  I want an I pad mini  to buy.  I need money from Christmas to go toward my I pad mini.

New friends

         I 've made lots of friends these few weeks at school.  I've been getting to school on time.  My teacher is very nice to all the girls.  My teacher's so nice that he gives out jolly rancher suckers.

My Garden

My garden has red tomatoes.  My garden has delicious red strawberries.  My garden has rosemary.

The red tomatoes are so delicious.  I love when you have a garden and you can go pick some strawberries.  The garden is so helpful.  My favourite plant is the strawberries.

A Trip to my friend's house

We went to my friend's house for a BBQ.  We had dinner.  After dinner we roasted marshmallows to put into s'mores and to just eat.  They were so tasty.  I had 5 marshmallows.  I played with my friend.  We had so much fun.

The Trip To The Cottage

I went to my Uncles cottage. It was really fun.  It took so long to get to the 

cottage because it takes 3 hours.  I put bug spray on but my sister didn't.  She has so many bug bites. I got birthday gifts.  I got a digging for bones kit,  a 500 piece puzzle,  coin colecting binder,  practice to do nails kit, and some  nail polish.  Going to the cottage was really nice.

My Birthday

My birthday was so fun!  I got a magic set from my brother, coloured pens, a journal, and a pair of socks from my sister.  My mom gave I 25$ , 15$ for the balk barn, 15$ on ITunes, and a braclet making set.  We had Swiss chalet for my birthday dinner. It was so yummy.  I had chicken fingers.

Birds vs. Squirrels

      There's squirrels that try to eat the bird seed in the birdfeeder.  They spill every where.


   The bird seed is for the birds not the squirrels.  If it was for the squirrels it would be called squirrel seed.  I just saw it on July 10 2014.  This squirrel is CRAZY!

    This squirrel is steeling all of the bird seed.  This is so funny.  The squirrel hangs from it's tail.  Looks like he's having a tasty snack for a squirrel.  I can't believe this squirrel isn't falling.

          
                                   

Fixing Meds

When you take meds for narcolepsy it doesn't always work.  Schedules change , things can stress you out, your body changes,  and you can get colds.  All these things can make your meds stop working as well as they used to.

Right now my parents are adjusting one of my meds.  It takes time to get it just right.  It's hard to wait.  But I do feel a bit better today than I did last week.

I hate bad side effects that make you feel sick!!!!

Things I Will Do During The Summer

                          I wrote a paragraph at school and it was about what I would do during the summer.

                                                                Here it is

                         I will go swimming, have ice cream,eat frozen freezes, play at the park, play outside, and play with my rats in the summer.  I love going swimming because it feels great when it's hot out. Having ice cream in the summer is awesome because it tastes good and it cools you down when it's hot.  Playing at the park in the summer is only terrific when there's a breeze outside to cool you down.  I like playing outside with my friends in the summer because we can have play dates, get ice cream at monks, and go to stores to buy things.  Playing with my rats in the summer is Awesome because it's funny to watch them roll on their backs to cool of.  As you can see going swimming, having ice cream, eating frozen freezes, playing at the park, playing outside,and playing with my rats in the summer is AMAZING, AWESOME, TERRIFIC, and DELICOUS!

                         I think this paragraph is amazing because it is so juicy.

My rat Tongue Twisters

                                            My friends and I made up tongue twisters about the rats.  Tawny, Willow, Suki, Echo, and Zoey all have their own tongue twister. 

Tawny's tongue twister is Tawny tied two tails together too tight.

Willow's tongue twister is Willow wrote wrong with white.

Suki's tongue twister is Suki swam so slow she sank.

Echo's tongue twister is Echo eats every evil eagles eggs every evening.

Zoey's tongue twister is Zoey's zebra zipped Zoey's zipper.

I can't believe I made one for Zoey.  My favourite tongue twisters are Tawny's and Echo's.  I love these tongue twisters so much.

Dr.Mignot's Narcoleptic Dog

Did you know that animals can get narcolepsy and cataplexy too.  Dr. Mignot had a dog and it had narcolepsy and cataplexy.  I've seen some dogs with narcolepsy and cataplexy. 

 Dr.Mignot's narcoleptic dog falled down when he tried to eat.  It was funny when I watched videos of this poor dog. 

We have a rat and her name is Willow.  She sleeps a lot.  She looks and sounds like she has narcolepsy but she doesn't.  We are lucky that none of our rats have narcolepsy.

 I am the only one that has narcolepsy and cataplexy in the family.  I'm happy that there are supporters that support narcolepsy funds. 

To be honest I would rather have narcolepsy and cataplexy than be blind.  I'm pretty lucky to have just 1 little thing than have 1 millon things that are worse.

            This makes me feel like don't think about what has happened in the past  (   more sleepy during the day and lost most of my energy).  Think about what's coming in the future  ( better meds for the future so I can drive).







             

My Story: When I got Narcolepsy

I've had narcolepsy for 3years.  When I first got it I was 5 years old. This is the story of when I got narcolepsy.   I got the flu in Janurary 2011.  I recovered from the flu.  In febuaray I got pneumonia.  I was very sick with the pneumonia but seemed to recover after a week in the hospital.  My mom and dad noticed I was having a lot of naps every day.  They also noticed every time I laughed I would have full collapses.  They thought my child is acting weird.  They didn't know what was happening.

Adventuly I got results and It said I had Narcolepsy.  That was the story of when I got narcolepsy.

My Mom's Birthday

My mom's birthday was on Saturday May 24,2014.  She had a great birthday.

I gave my mom an icing spatula ,some dry erase markers, and a BBQ lighter.  My sister gave my mom coconut cream.  My brother gave my mom $5 and a cake icing tool.  My dad gave my mom a subscripition to It's a RATS world magazine.
Your probably thinking why would you get that.  You probably don't know about our pets.  Is it a dog? Is it a cat? NO it's rats!  RATS why in the world would you want RATS!

Narcolepsy: Not Alone

There is a campaign, started by Julie Flygare (Narcolepsy Advocate), that has been growing worldwide.

The campaign is called "Narcolepsy: Not Alone", and it is helping people with Narcolepsy to not feel so alone in their daily struggles.

Narcoleptic service dogs

There are narcoleptic service dogs for people with narcolepsy.  Some people with N need service dogs because they don't have parents, or they need a lot of help.  Narcoleptic service dogs help with waking people up,helping them get up,and making sure it's safe.

Narcoleptic service dogs can help people all over the world.  Narcoleptic service dogs are a big help to people that have Narcoleptic service dogs.

Being sleepy

Being sleepy is no fun for me.  To other people that don't have N they might think sleeping is fun.

Sleeping get's in the way of my day.   I have to sleep during 2 break at recess while all my friends are playing outside.   When it's a weekend I have to sleep at home and have 2 naps when I usualy have 1 nap at school and 1 at home.  It makes it had to remember my naps.

If I don't get a nap my tummy starts to hurt, I fight with myself to stay up, and I am tired.

I sometimes play a game and it's close to my nap time.  But I play because I want to.   But when I start to get tired my sleep get's in the way but I know what  will happen so I go to sleep.

As you can see being sleepy is no fun for me.

Lifestyle changes that help

Going to bed at the same time every night and getting up in the morning at the same time every day

Taking short naps every 4 hours

Exercise every day

Eat nutritious food

Don't eat carbs early in the day

Take your meds as prescribed

Get fresh air every day

Surround yourself with people who understand and are helpful

Be kind to yourself.  If you need a sleep day take it

Pill times

I take 2 big pills and 1 small pill if I need it.  I take my first at 8:00.  I take my second pill at school.   I take my last pill at 4:00 or 5:00 if I need it

I feel awake.

I feel active.

I take my first pill at 8:00 because it wakes me up for school.  It helps me get through the morning. 

I take my second pill at school because I wouldn't want my mom and dad coming to pick me up for my pill or they coming with the pill.  

I take my last pill at 4:00 or 5:00 but if I don't need it I don't take it.  I just take it when I need it.

Narcolepsy walk

We do a 5k walk for Narcolepsy every year.  We raise money for Narcolepsy to see if they can find a cure.  

It's in June or July.  Finding a cure means a lot for people with Narcolepsy.  We bring a stroller for me just incase if I get tired from walking. I walk for 2-3k then I get tired.   

My friends come to the walk if their available.

Doctor appointment

I went to the doctors and my mom and dad talked with them.  The doctor asked how I was feeling.  I said I was good.  

We had to wait a little longer because she had other people  to talk to, so in the meantime we had our lunch.  For lunch I had a bagel I split with my mom.  I also had a cookie.  My mom had a cookie too.  My dad had a bagel too.  He also had a big cookie it was giant.

I had a book about Narcolepsy and Cataplexy that I showed my doctor.  She loved it.  

Having fun

I can have fun.  Anybody with N can have fun too.  I have fun all the time.  I play with my friends when I'm outside for recess at school. I have play dates with my friends too.  I sometimes play with my parents too.  I even go to the park.   My parents are awesome because they let me go on the playground. 

I have play dates after school.  I think your wondering how I do that without having a nap.  I go to my friends house to play or they come to my house.  Where ever I go I come home and then I go to bed early or I have a quick nap.

Having fun is easy but after you have to pay it back if you have N.  I have felt sick before that's part of paying it back.  Sometimes I'm lucky because I don't get sick and I love it when that happened.  

Narcolepsy or Cataplexy

If I could get rid of Narcolepsy or Cataplexy.  I would get rid of Cataplexy because I don't want to hurt anybody.  Yes I do want to get rid of Narcolepsy because I don't want to sleep anymore in  the afternoon.

If I could get rid of Narcolepsy it would be a dream come true.  I would not have to nap.  But if I could get rid of Cataplexy everything would be possible with laughing.  I would be able to laugh, stand up, do gymnastics, do skipping with laughing.

I would feel great if I didn't have N.
I would feel not tired.

I would feel more stable if I didn't have C.
My life would be free from falling down all the time.

Activities

I know I have N but that doesn't mean I can't do activities. I did do gymnastics. I was not so tired when I was doing gymnastics. I started gymnastics a few years ago.

 

When I was in gymnastics I felt awake.
When I was in gymnastics I felt active.
when I was in gymnastics I felt great.

Gymnastics wasn't the only thing I did. I was doing skipping the night before gymnastics. I was doing really well with not getting tired. I liked gymnastics more than skipping. I don't know why. I am doing church on Wednesdays. I'm doing one activity now and it is church. But I'm not doing gymnastics & skipping any more. It was just too much for me.

In the summer I'm going for swimming lessens.  I know how to swim.  But I don't know how to tred.  So that's what I need to learn because if I ever go in Lake Ontario to swim I'll have to know how to tred.  I don't think I will though.

Mom and Dad helping me

They aways help me when I'm sick.

Dad snuggles with me when I'm not feeling well. Mom gives me meds if I need them. My Mom and Dad are great. I love them.

Sometimes my Mom and Dad bring me Tawny when I don't feel well. Mom and Dad take care of me. What would I do without them.

When their with me I feel safe.

When their with me I feel great.

When their with me I feel good.

Tawny helps me

Tawny is my rat. Tawny cuddles with anybody.

Tawny is very cuddly. Tawny helps me when I feel sick or tired. Sometimes Tawny sleeps with me and my mom watches Tawny so she doesn't get away.

Tawny isn't the only rat. There's five rats and their all cuddly. 

Tawny makes me feel good.

Tawny makes me feel awake sometimes.

Tawny makes me feel awesome.

Tawny makes me feel not sick.

What Narcolepsy is like for me

I'm a kid.  I've had Narcolepsy with Cataplexy for three years.  I got it when I was 5.  Even though there's a lot of info on N out there it doesn't mean a lot to me.  All I know about N is what I feel.

I feel wobbly.
I feel tired.
I feel like it's hard to think.
I feel like I miss out on a lot.
I feel sick if I don't have naps.


I'm lucky that I have a mother & father who take good care of me.  They keep me safe when I'm wobbly.  They get me to take a nap when I'm tired.  They give me my medicine all day long and they stay with me when I feel sick. 
 

At school I take a nap.  Sometimes I'm so tired I can't think and my EA takes me for a walk to wake up.  I really like school but some days I'm feeling too sick to go. 

I also take a pill right after I get up from my nap.
